A Group for Every Skill Level

I can tell that it's spring and everybody is eager to get out on their bikes and ride, we are getting a lot of questions so I have a few updates to share:

New Group Rider Training

Once again, we will be offering a new group rider training session, hopefully Saturday April 21.  Riders who indicated they were new to the OCC and were not previously a member of another club will be receiving additional information in the next week or so.

Ride Marshal Training

Our annual ride leader clinic is scheduled for Saturday April 7 from 1-3 pm at Ned Devine's Irish Pub in Milton.  If you have volunteered to be a ride leader, or are thinking about doing it, please join us.

Parking Waivers

For riders expecting to participate on our Sunday morning rides, we will need to submit parking waivers for the use of the Halton Operations Center.  Please click here to view and print the waiver. Then sign it, scan or take a clear picture, and email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Clothing Update and Fit Kit

Over the winter, we have been in discussion with Jakroo and have decided to move our clothing business from Louis Garneau to Jakroo for 2018!  Along with this move, Jeremy and Clemente have been hard at work giving our kit a nice refresh to brighten up the colour scheme after feedback was received last year that it was too dark. The OCC will be offering a $20 rebate per member towards the purchase of a jersey - you are encouraged to take advantage of this deal on the first clothing order, as pricing discounts will be received based on total volumes ordered.  Shipping will be direct to your home.  Fit kits will be available in early April at Cyclepath Oakville followed by a 2-3 week ordering window, with the goal to have items shipped out to you by mid-May.  Stay on the lookout for an email with additional information as dates are firmed up.  Pictures of the new design have been posted on Facebook.

OCC Rides - Start Saturday April 21

Weather permitting, our club rides will be starting Saturday April 21.  The process to communicate routes will be the same as last year – we will be posting routes to our RidewithGPS club account.  Weather cancellations will continue to be emailed to members.
Weekend rides will start at 8:30 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m.

Change to Group 5 and 6

We have decided to rename our Group 5 and 6 rides to more accurately reflect their pace and encourage additional members to ride with this small group of excellent cyclists!  We will no longer have a Group 6 and instead have Group 5 (riding out of Appleby) and Group 5 - Munns (riding out of the Munns church parking lot).

Charity Ride Info

The Darling Home for Kids, situated in Milton, Ontario, is a place of joy, filled with the smiles and laughter of children engaging in unique and enriching experiences and exploring new and exciting activities.

Medically fragile children receive wonderful care in a beautiful, warm and home-like environment, which provides comfort and a break to families facing the daily challenges of caring for a child with complex medical needs.  Families are supported in knowing that there is a continuum of care from respite through to palliation and, when needed, end of life care.

The Cedarbrook Society is a registered charity that owns and operates The Darling Home for Kids.  The annual Wheels Ride is one of many ways the Cedarbrook Society fund raises money to properly maintain and provide for families at the Darling Home for Kids. The ride follows local roads in Halton Region, starting and ending at the Mattamy Velodrome on June 24th. There are 3 ride groups available: 25, 50 and 100kms.

It is hoped the Oakville Cycling Club will participate in 2018 to assist in raise funds in support of the Darling Home for Kids.
