In this announcement:

  • Safe Cycling Open House
  • Power of 10 charity event in support of Lighthouse
  • Tour de Grand
  • Charity donation update

Safe Cycling Open House

On Saturday June 3rd, Halton Regional Police is hosting a Safe Cycling Open House from 10:00am – 12 noon in the lobby of the Mattamy National Cycling Centre (aka the Velodrome).

This will provide a unique opportunity to meet with police, regional traffic departments, the OCA and the farming community to discuss cycling-related issues, including associated by-laws, the High Traffic Act and safe cycling in rural areas.

Power of 10 charity event in support of Lighthouse

The Power of 10 is a fundraising initiative in support of the Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children.  Lighthouse is an Oakville-based, self-funded, organization which provides support to help children, teens and their families recover and adjust after a death in the family.

The event will be held on Saturday October 21st at 6:00pm at the Mattamy National Centre (on the interior on provided stationary bikes) – their goal is to have all team collectively ride the equivalent of 1000 km in 100 minutes.

Like last year, OCC will cover the entry fee for our members who want to ‘Team OCC’ and we are looking for 10 volunteers to fill the team.

With the road riding season will be winding down at the time of the event, this will be a fun opportunity to ride in a different setting and support a great cause.  If you are interested in signing up for this event, please respond to this email.

For those who want to participate by riding on the track, they are holding a ‘Track Challenge’ which requires participants to have both their ‘A’ and ‘B’ certification on Mattamy track.  Registration for this is on an individual basis and for additional details on this, and the event in general, please refer to their website http://powerof10.ca/

Tour de Grand

Sunday June 11th is the date of the annual Tour de Grand cycling event in Cambridge; the event has routes for all abilities with route options up to 160km – new for 2017 they are offering ‘gravel grinder’ routes of 50 and 76km.  While not considered to be an official OCC ride, it is a great event which is well supported by members of our club.

For those planning to do the ride, RidewithGPS files have been created and can be found on the following page for many of the route options (https://www.cambridgetourdegrand.com/routes.php).  A special shout out to Carlos Vivas from our club who helped pull these together for all participants!

You can still register for the event at https://www.cambridgetourdegrand.com/register.php, or in person the day of the event.

Please note that due to high participation in this event, some of our regular Sunday morning OCC rides may be cancelled due to lack of Ride Marshalls.

Charity Donation Update

For those members that have registered your charity ride which is scheduled for June 11th or earlier, you should have received a charity donation from the club – for events past this date, donations will be made shortly.
