Tip of the Week: Moving Over
In group riding, it's very important to move over as far to the right when you hear someone yell out "car back".  On some of my rides in the past, I have noticed that this turns into an opportunity for some people to pass while others are getting out of the way of the car.
DO NOT do this.
If you want to pass and somebody has yelled "car back", wait until the car or cars have passed before attempting any sort of passing manoeuvre,  At the same time, make sure to tell people that you are coming up on the side -- usually by saying "on your left".  If you hear this, don't look back or zig and zag -- keep your bike in a straight line and thank the person for letting you know that they are there.
Special Presentation: Tour the Divide
OCC member Greg Andre-Barrett will be doing a presentation this coming Monday, 7 PM, at Cyclepath Oakville on his Tour the Divide last year.  From Greg:
WHAT: My “Brutal but Beautiful” Tour Divide race…
WHO: Greg Andre-Barrett
WHEN: Monday June 9, 2014, 7pm
WHERE: Cyclepath Oakville, 500 Speers Rd
Greg will provide a slide show presentation and explain how “Brutal but Beautiful” became his mantra for surviving and indeed enjoying the 2013 Tour Divide race.
The Tour Divide is the world’s longest toughest totally self-supported mountain bike race – 4,600 kms from the start in Banff Alberta through the states of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico, to the USA-Mexico border. What makes the Tour Divide so brutal on body and mind is that the route follows and criss-crosses the Rocky Mountains continental divide 34 times, resulting in 61,000 metres of climbing, the equivalent of climbing from sea level to the top of Mt Everest seven and half times!
Discussion Mailing List
A quick reminder that we have an optional discussion mailing list available for everyone to use for cycling related topics.  Dave Harris posts community related information to that list.
Please let myself or Bent know if you’d like to be added to that list.  (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
Club Clothing
Club clothing should be arriving in the next week or two, based on the last e-mail I’ve seen from Garneau.
For those of you that ordered clothing, I will contact you when it arrives.
I will also update the inventory page on our website with actual quantities of the various items in stock.
July Special Ride
With June’s special ride behind us, it’s time to start planning for the July special ride.
As has been the case for the last two years, the July ride will be Niagara Falls back to Oakville.  We will take the train down to Niagara Falls and ride back to the Oakville GO station.
This ride has a very limited number of spots - 20-25 (still to be determined) - as we are at the mercy of what GO transit can accommodate on their bicycle trains.
We’re still working out the logistics and will send out a link to sign up in the coming weeks, which will include more information such as the date and how we plan on running the groups.
That’s it for this week.
